The lands of Beira Alta and the district of Viseu have already proved their potential to host exceptional and challenging orienteering events. In addition to the extraordinary terrains and landscapes, the incredible Mediterranean weather during winter time allows the international orienteering peloton to prepare conveniently the season.
After the recognized success of several events such as the Portugal O’meeting 2012 in Viseu and Sátão, the Mediterranean Championship in Orienteering in 2014 in Sátão and Aguiar da Beira (co-organized by Clube de Orientação de Viseu – Natura and Ori-Estarreja), and the III Meeting of Orienteering Dão Lafões WRE 2018 in Sátão (organized by Clube de Orientação de Viseu – Natura) , the big events are back to the club’s scheduling. This time, the terrains of Penedono and Sernancelhe will host the Beira Alta O’Meeting (BEIROM’20) – Penedono and Sernancelhe WRE Candidate. In 2014, during the national championship of orienteering of sprint and long distance, Penedono have already showed its potential with challenging terrains. Concerning Sernancelhe, it is the first time that it will receive the orienteering community. Even though, we can already ensure that it will be a nice surprise.
In Penedono, the typical Portuguese village of Penela da Beira will the epicenter of the event during the first day. The forest map will be a new one, with a diversity of features, such as clean forest, rocky and contour details, all types of vegetation and open areas. During the same day, a sprint orienteering race will be held in the typical village of Penela da Beira.
During the second day, the event will take place in the surroundings of Sernancelhe, more concretely, in Vila da Ponte. Here, a long distance WRE candidate will take place, in a map that certainly will surprise all the athletes. In a pine tree forest with a lot of rocky details and some areas of vegetation, this will be a map that will not be forgotten.
Of course, that besides the competition, we cannot forget the excellent conditions that the region has to offer. Beautiful landscapes, villages with history and the tasteful gastronomy, are ingredients that cannot be wasted.
